The very dark cloud that has been hanging over our heads for the bulk of this year has lifted. We are so relieved and excited to be able to share the news that our application for funding to the Commonwealth has been successful.
NT and SA Working Women's Centres have been given a lifeline from the Commonwealth government, but we are deeply saddened that our sisters at Queensland Working Women's Service have not been so lucky. They were unsuccessful in their bid.
Whilst we will not be getting the same amount as in previous years, we are so very relieved that we can at least keep the doors open in both Darwin and Alice Springs. The funding has been confirmed for the next 4 years, but there has been an overall cut of 15% per annum.
This means that on the day to day level we will either need to cut back services or seek alternate ways of securing revenue. Needless to say, we are determined not to cut back on our services.
We are working hard to develop income streams and a fundraising calendar to make up the shortfall. With your help and support, we know that we will achieve our targets.
We could not have done this without the support of the community and we thank you for working to ensure that the doors of the NT Working Women's Centre will re-open for the 23rd consecutive year on the 3rd of January, 2017.
